Welcome to Aoiro

Our family has run this inn on Lake Towada for three generations. We don't have the facilities of a big hotel, but we greet every guest in person.

Walk along the lake in the morning, hike the Oirase Gorge in the afternoon, and watch the quiet water over dinner. Our staff speak English and are happy to help you plan your days.

Lake Towada through the seasons

  • May–June

    Fresh green

Snowmelt makes the gorge at its most powerful, and the beech forest glows with new leaves.

  • July–August

    Summer

At 400 m above sea level, nights by the lake stay cool. Most nights you won't need air conditioning.

  • mid-Oct – early Nov

    Autumn leaves

Our most popular season, when the lake and gorge turn red and gold. Please book early.

  • December–March

    Winter

The snowy lake is perfectly quiet. We open 4 rooms in winter and pick you up at Yasumiya.

From our guests

  • We opened the window and there was the lake. The trout at dinner was wonderful, and we walked along the shore once more before leaving.

    A couple from Tokyo

  • The staff explained in English how to hike the Oirase Gorge. Our kids loved the grilled fish at breakfast.

    A family from Australia

  • I stayed alone in the autumn. Two quiet days of reading and looking at the lake. A real luxury.
