Lake Towada, YasumiyaAoiro Lakeside Inn

Things to do

Yasumiya, where the inn is located, is the center of Lake Towada sightseeing. Here are our favorite places, from a short walk to about an hour's drive.

The Oirase stream flowing between mossy rocks in autumn

20 min by car or bus

Oirase Gorge

A 14 km trail along a mountain stream from Nenokuchi to Yakeyama. The most popular section, from Ishigedo to Kumoi Falls, takes about 2 hours on foot. You can return by bus.

The clear water of Lake Towada reflecting the clouds

5 min walk

Lake Towada sightseeing boat

A 50-minute cruise from Yasumiya to Nenokuchi. The cliffs of the Ogura Peninsula can only be seen from the water. (No service in winter.)

A shrine building in the forest

15 min walk

Statue of Maidens and Towada Shrine

A bronze sculpture by Kotaro Takamura on the lakeshore, and a shrine in a cedar forest. A perfect morning walk.

1 hour by car

Towada Art Center

A contemporary art museum with works spread along the main avenue of Towada city. Good for a rainy day or an afternoon after the gorge.

1 hour by car

Hakkoda Ropeway

About 10 minutes to the summit park. Famous for autumn colors and frost-covered "snow monsters" in winter.

Times are approximate from the inn and vary with the season and traffic.

Free rentals at the inn

Rubber boots and rain jackets for the gorge trail, and bicycles (4 bikes, May–October). An English walking map is available at the front desk.
